March 7, 2013Catherine Bernstein talked to Ontente about the use of archive footage in documentary film, following the screening of her film Death of a Hatmaker at the East Doc Platform in Prague.

Catherine directed her first short film in 1996, Zohra à la Plage, followed by Pour la Vie. She then filmed three documentaries in Germany based on the theme of German guilt: Oma, Les Raisins Verts (Jean Lodz Scam 2000 Award) and Les Absentes. Murder of a Hatmaker, made in 2006, dealt with the plundering of the Jews by the Vichy government, winning awards worldwide.
